Say "thank you" with cookies

Thank you cookie set with swirl roses and sanding sugar by Tunde Dugantsi

I always like to work with generic shapes. There is so much you can do with a square or an oval cookie! For this set I just grabbed an assortment laying around and started to play with them.

I always have icing transfer flowers in stock. Whenever I have some left over icing and some spare time I make some flowers. These little swirl roses are shades of Americolor dusty rose. I start with a color, then when I don't have enough icing in the bag to continue piping I mix some white to it to get the next shade. I repeat this once more to have three shades of the same color.

I store my flowers in plastic containers and list the extra in my Etsy store. This way, whenever I need some flowers I have a nice stash to choose from.

The other color for this set is yellow and to make it interesting I added some texture by sprinkling sanding sugar on the flood icing. This looks just as good for me as disco dust, but it's all natural from TruColor. I love these sanding sugars, but I did not like the plastic jars they came in. So I bought spice jars to store them. The great news is, TruColor just came out with a new packaging: spice jars. They should be available in stores soon!

Here you can watch how I made these cookies, enjoy!

Heart box and mini cookies made with TruColor pink gel color

Pink TruColor cookie set by Tunde Dugantsi

This set was a gift for a little girl who loves cookies. The heart box is hiding a little surprise for her. The rest of the cookies are small (around 2 inch) because mom does not like her to eat a lot of sweets at a time. I also used the all natural TruColor pink gel food color, what I use for my children's sweets too.

This set would also make a nice Valentine's gift.

Here you can see the videos:

Snowflake needlepoint cookies

Snowflake needlepoint cookies by Tunde Dugantsi

I've spent a few weeks in Hungary, so I am back after a long break and I try to catch up.
First, let me show you this set of needlepoint snowflake cookies:

Square cookie gifts with TruColor

Square cookie gifts with TruColor by Tunde Dugantsi

I like to give my kids' teachers cookies for Christmas. I have these perfect 6x6x1 inch sized white gift boxes with transparent lid from Uline. They can transform any big cookie or set of smaller cookies into a nice little gift.

I mixed a small palette of TruColor Royal blue icing. I love to work with different shades of the same color and the beauty of TruColor's natural colors always amazes me.

This is a 5.5 inch square cookie and I used a snowflake cutter from Ann Clark as a template for the pattern. You can see the steps here:

The next cookie is the same style. For the main motif I used a smaller cutter, positioned in one corner and filled the rest with different sizes of snowflakes. I don't have a video for this one (yes, I forgot to push the record button), but the steps are very similar to the first cookie.

And here is my favorite. This is a set of 4 small squares. The same design repeated 4 times. Half of the square is sprinkled with TruColor sanding sugar for some color and texture. Then I added snowflakes on top. The other half is blank and the two parts are connected with lace work.

As you can see at the end of the video, by arranging the 4 squares in different ways your can get very different gift boxes.

Finally, here is a picture of the gift boxes:

Cookie gift sets with swirl roses

Cookie gift sets with swirl roses by Tunde Dugantsi

Do you remember the square cookie gifts I posted earlier? I made them to fit the 6x6x1 gift boxes and they made such a nice gift! This variation is even better. These cookies are a little under 3 inches in size and four of them can fill the same gift box. I made 3 different sets, using the TruColor sanding sugars again. The first set is two squares and two circles with the same, very simple pattern:

The next set is four of the same square design:

And the third is a simple square design:

My favorite thing about this set is that you can create many different designs just by assembling the set in different ways:

Have fun with them!

Big square cookies with swirl roses

Now, that I have 3 kids at school and dance recitals and travels all happen when school ends, I can not make big cookie sets for all of our wonderful teachers (although they would certainly deserve it).

Luckily, I have the beautiful white 6x6 inch gift boxes with clear lids from Uline,  that help me create gorgeous 1 cookie gift boxes.

A was also so excited to get my TruColor sanding sugars, that I had to incorporate it in my design. I decided to create a fun texture with it. Look how nice and shiny and fun it looks:

I this point I have video for one of this set. As soon as I can edit the rest I will add them to this post. Have fun with them!

EDIT:
I have two more videos for you (when I decorated the fourth cookie I forgot to push record).

Candy filled Easter egg cookies

Candy filled Easter egg cookies by Tunde Dugantsi

I got so busy around Easter, that I could not post anything. Now, I am trying to catch up and share the Easter egg cookies I made for my kids.

Before you ask, unfortunately I don't have the egg molds for sale. I was not able to get them, but if things change you will be the first to know. However Wilton has a cake pan with small eggs that might serve as a mold for these cookies.

As I made these for my kids, I used the all natural Trucolor Airbrush shine colors for them.

Here is the video tutorial:

Cookie box with simple white lace decoration

Cookie box with white lace by Tunde Dugantsi

I think simple is beautiful. For the third cookie box option in the Texas class series I decided on simple white lace on the bare cookie. This is the most traditional combination and I love it. It's simple but elegant and all you need is a tiny bag of white icing.

Cookie box with madeira lace

Cookie box with madeira lace by Tunde Dugantsi

This was the second design of the Texas cookie box class. This transparent layer is a 3 second consistency icing painted on the cookie. This is an easy technique that has many applications and definitely looks harder that it is. Give it a try!

Cookie box with eyelets and flowers

Cookie box with eyelets and flowers by Tunde Dugantsi

Cookie boxes are my favorite 3D cookies. They are easy to make in any shape and size and they can hide a little surprise inside.

For this set I used graduating hexagon cutters (3 different sizes). But you can use any shape with this method. I like when the bottom and the lid are a little bigger, than the rings that build up the side of the box.

I created this set for my 2015 Texas class and I made three different designs with the same technique for the lid.

This design has a drop flower arrangement in the middle and eyelets in each corners.

This design has bigger eyelets creating a flower shape and the drop flowers are added between the eyelets and in the middle.

The last design reminds me of my grandmother's little lace decorations with the round eyelets. The drop flowers in the middle add a nice accent.

Here is the video of this project for all of you who could not make it to the class:

12 wet on wet Valentine's heart design

Valentine's wet on wet heart cookies by Tunde Dugantsi

Check the updated post on my new blog.

Valentine's cookies 2016 - part 2

Valentine's cookies by Tunde Dugantsi

I am back with the rest of the Valentine's set. Again, I just mention the napkin ring cookies as there is a whole post about them.

Valentine's cookies by Tunde Dugantsi

I already showed yesterday the icing transfer heart. This one is the same, but smaller. I used a candy mold to create the small heart transfers. The cookie has a simple red base color, the icing transfer and white piped pattern, finished with a bead border.

This cookie features an other big heart transfer with roses and some piping around it.

Valentine's cookies by Tunde Dugantsi

This is a 4 inch heart cookie and the inside is a 2 inch heart shape. I flooded the inside with white and the rest of the cookie with red icing. Then I made the hearts in the red part with wet on wet technique. Watch my video to see how to make these. I wrote the word LOVE in the middle and added a little heart underneath. I finished the design with pink bead borders.

This is a very similar design, but instead of writing to the middle I added a rose.

Valentine's cookies by Tunde Dugantsi

The transparent lace is combined with a small royal icing transfer heart on red base.

The top of the cookie is flooded with red, the bottom with pink icing. I placed a small icing transfer heart to the middle. Then I traced lines from the heart to the sides on the top and connected the two parts with the red lace pattern. I finished the design with a simple bead border.

What are you creating for Valentine's Day?

Valentine's cookies 2016 - part 1

Valentine's cookies by Tunde Dugantsi

I decided not to plan too much ahead for the Valentine's cookies. I baked some circles and some hearts, prepared red, pink and white icing in flood and piping consistencies and started to play.

I already wrote a post about the napkin ring cookies, so I will not talk about that one now. So let's talk about the next cookie.

Valentine's cookie by Tunde Dugantsi

This is a 4 inch heart. I traced a 3 inch heart on top, then I created the red scalloped border with brush embroidery. Then I flooded the 3 inch heart with pink and let it dry. I finished the border with lots of dots and put some toothpick roses to the middle.

This  cookie has a simple red flooded base, a red bead border and a transparent lace pattern. You can see how to make this lace (using 3 second consistency icing) here.

Valentine's cookie by Tunde Dugantsi

I made this heart shape icing transfer using a 3D cookie mold. I started with a marbled pink and white base color and when it was dry I placed 3 roses to the middle of the cookie then I added the heart transfer. I finished the design with white bead border.

Valentine's cookie by Tunde Dugantsi

This is a little candle holder. The base is a simple circle flooded with red icing and finished with a bead border. I cut the middle of the heart cookie after baking, then added a marbled flood base. I glued the two parts together, placed the candle inside the hole. I decorated the heart cookie with 3 little roses and finished the design with borders.

To be continued...

Chocolate squares with snowflakes - inspired by friends

What you do when you have 4 big square chocolate gingerbread cookies to play with? You get out the stencil you fall in love with months ago but never had time to play with. The stencil has 4 different gorgeous snowflakes and was created by my friend Tammy from 2T's Stencils.

Then I decided to add a little sparkle to my cookie. I got this pixie dust from Joey at Sugar 'n Spice. She loves to add sparkle to her cookies and I decided to follow her this time. Snow sparkles, right? Too bad, that I still can not make pictures that actually show it.

As you can see, these snowflakes are a little small on my 5 inch cookies. I wanted to keep them as the main motif so I decided to frame them. I got some cute plaque cutters from my friends at Cookie Cutter Kingdom. I used them as templates for my frames:

I traced the shapes on the cookie with scribe tool.

I use cookie cutters as templates all the time. And when I have a softer cookie (like my yummy gingerbread) I don't even have to trace it. I just push the cutter on the cookie and I have a nice outline. This cookie was a little harder, so I had to trace it.

It's easy to pipe over the traced line.

Then  I was following the shape with the second line.

And I outlined the second frame with doth. I love this two lines + dots combination. It is easy but it makes a beautiful frame.

This design left my corners a little empty. Also all my snowflakes and frames are different. So I decided to unify the set with the same, simple lace decoration in all corners.

Here is the finished cookie:

And the full set again:

Happy New Year my Friends!
